Dies Duos

Another early start of 6AM, luckily the weather was good, a mild 11 celsuis (51.8 fahrenheit). I was very sore from the previous days marches and training so I decided to do my first march without a weighted rucksack, just weighed vest. My feet were also sore after all the marching in sand shoes so I regeretably wore shoes for this march. This was another 4 mile march in under an hour which was a slightly quicker time from  yesterday. The second march of the day took a turn. I think I should note at this point all of the marches are either on existing forestry fire roads or single track paths. I planned to go on a quick 2 mile march in bodyarmour/weighted vest and weighted rucksack however 1 mile in one of the canine Speculatores got seperated and so for 30 minutes ( 1 mile covered on Fitbit, but I expect this to be more) we searched through dense conifer forest following mainly deer trails. Anyone thats spent time in an unmanaged forestry plantation in will know what its like to move across one of these. Eventualy the dog was found and we headed back, in total I had covered 3 miles, one of which was crawling and fighting my way through heavy forest in full gear. This was not what I was expecting for my second march, I cannot imagine how hard it would be for a Legionary to ambushed in an unfamiliar, dense forest. My third walk was easier with another 3 miles. In total I covered 11.2 miles

Labouring today was the constructing of shed walls, in particlar putting sheathing up and cutting. While not as labour intensive as digging  it still provided hard labour after lots of marching.

I did not do any training today as the time I would normally do training was interrupted with the searching of one of my dogs, especially in body armour and a rucksack I felt like this could of counted as a training excersise.

My food today was better, I went with a rye sourdough loaf and found it easier to go down, I think with the marching, labouring and excersising yesterday my body was prepared for more calories today. I was given the reccomendation by a reader of eating some apples and fruit as my diet so far has consisted of grains, oats, beef, cabbage, onion and some garlic. Overall I was impressed with how easy a lot of the food went down today compared to yesterday. I consumed 3100 calories and at this point 9:30pm my fitbit says I've burnt 3800 calories.

Mentally I have been good, I gave myself a hard time for not marching with me weighted rucksack this morning and shoes, however I can't imagine legionary recruits would be given their full kit and expected to do the works of a seasoned Legionary, so baby steps. Also eager to have a  proper training session tomorrow in body armour as this one was interrupted. Apart from that, I havent felt any anxiety or irritation. Everything is looking good.
