Die Viginti Quinque
There was no march today, today was the day if battle so all morning energy was to be saved. As a result of the impending battle all manual labour was cancelled.
The enemy forces were sighted 1 mile away from the fort so the legionairres marches out at a quick pase, this was a light 1 mile jog with body armour and scutum (5kg dumbell) The forces met on a slope. The Romans fought fiercley up hill for the next hour, rotating their troops to allow short breaks. (This part of the workout consisted of as many burpees as possible in 30 seconds followed by 20 gladuis stabs and scutum pushes then AMRAP ( As Many Reps As Possible) burpees in 30 seconds I then had a 'rest' of walking up hill for a minute and a half. )
After fierce fighting the enemy routed and we're chased down my the troops ( another 1.5 mile light jog, pausing every couple hundred meters for AMRAP burpees for 30 seconds.
This workout was a killer, I felt absolutley drained, my shoulders neck and ankles are sore, my entire body. The training over the past month definitely helped but I was dead. The training weight of the scutum definitely helped and showed as I was able to throw about this lighter scutum no problem. I will review the battle more tomorrow.
Nutrition was a big helping if stew and bread with some posca ( why not since there was a battle looming).
Mentally I didn't want to do today but I'm happy I got the workout done and just about finished this challange !
