Dies Tertius Decimus
Today was a better today, I did a slightly shorter but faster 3.5 mile march in under an hour. For this I wore my rucksack with 7.5 kg of weight. The weather was pleseant too which made it easier. My second march was another short 1.5 mile, again quite easy.
Manual labour consisted of more brush wood clearing. This was quite hard in the heat but also with my shoulders and upper back still hurting. This time however I think the cause of this pain is from training and not the weighted marches.
Training wise I did a total of 220 squats, 150 pushups and 150 gladuis and scutum movements. I did these in circuits of 15 squats, 10 pushups and 10 movements for 15 sets. All of these were back to back with little to no rest. I then finished this off with 100 burpees.
Nutrition wise I was still on pork stew with rye bread, not to mention oats, cheese and apples to supplement the additional calories.
Mentally I have been ok, I think the frustration has gotten to me a little as well as juggling work but overall I am still enjoying it.
Anyway, I am away off for a camping trip with my partner for a few days, I won't be posting anything until Saturday.
Reflection
Weight
My current weight
is 158lbs (71.66kg) where as last week I was 156.4 (70.9kg).
I found this interesting as I have kept my calories the same, maybe slightly more yet my recovery has been poor from the previous days exercise. I will have a closed look at my calories next week.
Calories
I currently use a Versa 2 fitbit which can sometimes be generous with the calories burnt, however, my calories were as follows :
Sat -3,463
Sun-3,687
Mon-3,691
Tues-3,288
Wed-2828
So overall my burnt calories weren't too different from last week with the exception of Wendesday. I amn't sure what caused the increase in weight as if anything I should be eating at about maintenance at the moment. Obviously I didn't gain almost a lb and a half over a few days as some of this will be water weight. Never the less I will keep an eye on this.
Miles
Sat - 9.42
Sun-8.21
Mon-11.54
Tues-8.23
Wed-5.3I wasn't able to stick to my 10-12 miles a week as much which I am a bit annoyed about, unfortunatley I had quite a busy week. I am away camping and hiking over the next few days which I will hopefully cover a lot of miles .
Thoughts
Overall I am a little dissapointed how the week went. I was a bit sore and my recovery didn't help with this. I am going to focus a bit more on my nutrition, maybe look for higher protein options if they are available in my local area. I felt beef helped with this however, we will see what I can rustle up. Marching wise, I could definitley step up the game however due to the 'Celtic Revolt' this may need to go on hold. While my workouts/training have gone well I was getting quite tired of the same old movements so I will try and switch it up.
Plans
I am planning to focus on the building/labouring a lot more over the next two weeks. I am planning on building a path and brush wood wall, I will see which I find more enjoyable. I will also be changing my training up to make it more intense, probably shorter intense bursts will be added to the training program at the moment. It strange I have just about reached the half way point. I'm thinking now that I know what I'm doing I can progress from here. As for anyone wondering if I will be doing any 20 mile marches like Legionarys would do once a month for training, just after this project will end I will be going on a hiking trip with friends where we will be walking 16-22 miles a day for a week, we won't be building forts at the end of each day but I think that portion will suffice for any miles I may have missed out.
